Here we are! You juste received your access to the platform and you can't wait to start using Visibrain!
This guide is a support in your discovery of the tool, get in touch with your account manager to have an overview of Visibrain's advanced features.
As a monitoring tool on social media, Visibrain gives you access to an huge amount of social data. To properly monitor your topics, you need to decide what kind of watch you want to do :
You can answer many monitoring needs with Visibrain, it will be important to discuss all of this with your account manager to help you get started.
Once your monitoring needs are defined, we can start using the platform and create your first Topic.
Once your monitoring Topic is live and the data has been retrieved, you can start using the different features of the platform to analyse it.
You will find below a video to help you navigate the platform.
You can click everywhere on the platform to easily get more details about what you are looking at (who shared this tweet ? What do people say about this article on Twitter ? What is behind this peak of activity ? etc).
Use several sorting options
Posts, articles and users can be sorted by many indicators to give you the maximum level of information about your monitoring Topic.
Use filters to go in depth in your analysis
You can use Filters to detect low signals and easily find what you are looking for, even in a Topic with several thousands of posts. We have more than 150 Filters you can use according to your needs.
If you want to know more about Visibrain's platform, go on the section to learn how you can use the filters in Explore's section, setting up alerts, reports and create smartboards.
In this section you will learn how to create a topic and analyze the data in order to get an overview on what is said about your industry and your competitors.
In order to monitor a whole industry, we suggest you to focus ont two main points.
You can start with making a list of all related keywords and adding them to the Rules (for more information see page Create a Topic). If you monitor in different languages make sure you've included all the spelling and linguistics variants.
In order to get the most qualified data, Visibrain suggests you to monitor people having a significant impact on your industry (competitors, CEO, journalists, bloggers...).
To do so, you shall use both operators from: and retweets_of: for a X (formerly Twitter) watch, and the section called "pages" for other social media. You can either listen everything they say, either focus on a specific subject adding keywords.
a. Trends analysis
Here you will find hashtag, word and emoji clouds representing the most discussed subjects.
You can customize the clouds (changing items' color and size), see occurences of each item in a table or click on it to get more information.
For a Facebook watch, you have access to a pie chart of reactions. It helps you to evaluate the ton of your subject.
Here you will find all posts and articles related to your industry posted within your period of analysis. You can sort them by different indicators (date, likes, interactions...). You can add filter to focus on a specific event.
You can detect the most relevant influencers by adding filters based on their number of followers, details of their biography description, language, etc. This feature is available on all the units except on Facebook.
You can set up different kinf of Alerts :
🔔 An Abnormal Activity alert, to keep an eye on important news
📰 An automatic Report with key influencers' activity
📰 An automatic Report on posts and articles getting the most impact
Smartboards allow you to have a view on all social media at the same time.
Visibrain provides you a real-time alerting system. You can receive notifications by e-mail, Slack, Telegram or SMS. You can set up an alert based on a specific criterion (e.g. the volume of a topic that suddenly increases, a verified account with a large audience posting about your brand...).
Alerts are unlimited, and you can put as many recipients as you want in each alert.
Do not confund alerts and reports in which you can receive regularly (every day, every week...) a summary of the data of your monitoring topics.
It is possible to monitor a topic without necessarily setting an alert on it; and on the other hand it is possible to set several alerts on the same topic (for example to alert different people according to different volume thresholds).
A favourite is a Topic or a Sub-topic that you often use and that you have "pinned" to the top of the list of Topics using the star icon. You can select several Topics or Sub-topics as Favourite.
The number of impressions is the number of potential impressions there are on a topic (or post). It is the sum of the followers of the accounts that posted on the topic (or shared a post), and it gives an idea of the impact of the post in addition to the engagement metrics. This is not the number of actual impressions: only the owner of a social network account has access to the number of actual impressions. On average, we see that the number of actual impressions corresponds to 10% of the potential impressions, but this figure can vary greatly depending on the topic, the social networks and the accounts that posted.
A panel is a topic tracking the entire activity of a list of accounts/pages/channels, without including directly monitored keywords. Creating a panel can have several interests:
Monitoring trends within a community without using keywords
Monitoring an industry by keywords among selected experts (by filtering the panel) rather than having all the irrelevant results from the full public feed
Having an overview of the different "owned" social network accounts (for example: all the Facebook retailer pages of a company)
Having an overview of the social network accounts of a same industry (its brand + all its competitors)
A report is a recurring e-mail (or Slack, Telegram, SMS) of a summary of the data of your choice on one or more monitoring topics. Reports are unlimited, and you can put as many recipients as you want in each report.
Do no confund reports with real-time alerts.
A Sub-Topic is a topic that has been filtered and saved.
A timeline is a graph representig the volume of a topic over time. You can see the number of posts per hour but also the number of impression or other engagement metrics (not available on QuickTrends), with a precision ranging from months to minutes
The topic is your monitoring subject. A Topic is specific to a given social network (you need to create a topic for each social network you wish to monitor). A topic will retrieve all the posts corresponding to the rules of the topic (keywords, accounts...) in real time. We recommend creating topics with broad enough rules to be sure to retrieve all the content you need, then filter them to create a Sub-topic.

In the Users/Pages/Channel section, you can classify your competitors according to their audience (number of followers), their activity (number of publications they posted) or their influence (engagement generated).
In the Analytics section, you can access to the expressions and hashtags used by your competitors. The bigger the words are, the more engagement they have generated.
You also have the quantified details of each expression and hashtag.
You can access to all their posts, to stay informed of any news. You can choose a global view or a view by competitor by adding filters.

Visibrain gives you the opportunity to get and analyse the digital datas about your brand and your competitor's ones.
In order to monitor your brand online reputation, we suggest you to include the following elements in your Topic:
Variant spellings of the brand
Mentions within web contents (articles, videos, etc.)
Multiple X (formerly Twitter) accounts associated to the brand
Product's names
Hashtags associated to the brand
Example of a X (formerly Twitter) Topic to monitor the e-reputation of McDonald's:
First, you need to list the different variant spellings of the brand name, separated by the operator OR. It is important to think about every forms of writing the brand you want to monitor, to get the most exhaustive Topic: spelling mistakes, diminutives, alternative names, acronyms, etc.
You also have to add the operators url_title: and url_description: on all keywords linked to the brand to find it within titles and standfirsts of articles and web contents (websites, blogs, etc.).
If you want to get some past datas for your brand monitoring, you have to create your Topic without the operators url_title: et url_description: and add it then.
We also recommend to include the activity of X (formerly Twitter) account(s) of the brand.
To do that, you need to copy and paste the name of the brand X (formerly Twitter) account (you will find it after the @ on x.com) and associate it to the different operators ⬇️ :
You can choose to monitor the whole activity of the X (formerly Twitter) account (original tweets, replies to tweets, mentions of the account, quotes of the account) or only the original tweets with the operator from:.
The operators from:, retweets_of:, to: and url: have to be used without the @ from the account. If you put the @ with these operators, you rule will not work.
The operators retweets_of:, @ or to: used by themselves won't capture the tweets published by the brand account, which can lead to odd platform behaviours within your Topic.
We highly recommend you to always use these operators with from:, for example: from:user retweets_of:user
We recommend you to add the names of the brand's products to capture every posts quoting it. The monitoring will be as exhaustive as possible.
Finally, we recommend you to add every hashtags associated to the brand. They can be created by the brand itself (#ImLovingIt) or can be created by another person (for example, a hashtag like #BoycottMcDonalds). This kind of hashtags should be systematically added to the Topic to avoid missing any post using it.
First, we advise you to focus on your own posts (the "Owned"), to identify the most viral ones, by using the filter from: and the default sorting by number of retweets, see below:
Then, we advise you to focus on posts about your brand but published by other accounts than yours. You just have to exclude the activity of your own account, with the filtrer -from:. You will isolate every posts about your brand (the "Earned") et quickly identify the most viral ones:
If you want to monitor an ongoing or future sensitive topic associated to your brand, you can focus on this subject using the filters.
For example, you identified crisis-generating factors (TV show, incriminating article against the brand, sensitive(s) post(s) on social medias, etc.), we advise you to focus on this subject and to create a subtopic to easily monitor the datas:
You can also use filters to focus on verified X (formerly Twitter) accounts or which have more than a specific number of followers to only get the tweets of influencers:
🔔 An abnormal activity detection alert to be advised in case of breaking news about your brand becoming viral.
🔔 An alert for every new tweet of a verified X (formerly Twitter) account or from a specific community (journalist, politic, influencer, etc.) discussing about your brand.
🔔 An alert for every new tweet on a sensitive topic about your brand but not viral yet.
📰 A scheduled report of the most retweeted posts and articles about your brand.
Launch parties, TV reports, festivals... Get all the KPI's and data you need with Visibrain !
To monitor the impact of your event on social media, we advise you to make a list of all the key-words, hashtags and official accounts related to it. Don't forget to list all the different variants !
Once your list is done, you can use it to create your different topics on social network's you need to monitor :
Example : The Paris 2024 Olympic Games
You can use Visibrain's Explore functionality on the different topics in order to understand and measure the impact of an event on different social networks.
Visibrain's filters and smartboards will also allow you to go further in the analysis of the event, by helping you to classify highlights, influencers, speakers and partners.
Smartboards can also be useful to lay out all the indicators that are important for you in a personalized dashboard, so that you can monitor them in real time during the event.
Share the Smartboard created with your team !
We recommend that you also set up an email report that groups these indicators with Visibrain's Reports functionality to keep people who are not used to connecting to the platform informed.

It will be displayed as a series of numbers and letters, in quote marks. You can then copy this ID (without the quote marks) and mention it in Visibrain in the Channels field.
If you want to add more channels, you need to return line for every new channel you want to add.
In order to monitor one or many TikTok accounts, you need to go on TikTok and copy the username (the one in the space) in the Users unit of Visibrain ⬇️
If you want to add more users, you need to return line for every username you're adding.

If you want to add more channels, you need to start a new line for every channel name you want to add.
In order to monitor one or many Bluesky accounts, you need to go on Bluesky and copy the username in the Users unit of Visibrain.
If you want to add more users, you need to start a new line for every username you want to add.
In order to monitor LinkedIn companies or users, you need to go on LinkedIn and copy the page name that is written after in the URL : in the Users block if it's a person (a companies CEO for example), and in the Companies block if it's a companies LinkedIn page. If you want to add several companies and users, you need to start a new line for every company or user you add.
By clicking on , on the top right hand corner, you will access the details of your account, review your monthly quota and the quota consumption of your different monitoring Topics.
In order not to modify past data, Topic modification takes effect after the modification has been made. You have different options to recover the modified dataset: - If you added new keywords: you can get in touch with your account manager who can recover the data linked to your new monitoring rules. - If you deleted keywords: you can use the different or the "-" signe to exclude the unwanted data.

Detect influencers online using Visibrain
There are different ways to detect influencers on Visibrain: - By looking at the accounts that have been active on a subject, you can try and identify experts on a subject or just very passionate and influential accounts. Rank users by number of followers, generated engagement, number of posts, identify verified accounts of filter users by their bios. - Follow an influencer panel by using their bios as a filter (only on X (formerly Twitter) for now). - By analysing an influencer mapping based on their interactions (Influencer Mapping). - By analysing an influencer mapping based on their followers.
Before starting your research, you will need to define what type of influencer you're looking for, and what type of influence metric you want to concentrate on: - Number of followers, fans, subscribers of an account, page, channel ... - Verified accounts, pages, channels - Generated engagement (retweets, replies, quotes, reactions, likes, views...) - Number of published posts
With Visibrain, you can choose or combine any of these metrics to define the type of influence you're looking for.
Detect influencers with the Users/Demographics features of Visibrain.
Go to the Users / Pages / Channels tabs in your monitoring Topics, here you will access the lists of accounts, pages or channels that have taken part in your conversation. You can rank followers by different metrics:
Audience (number of followers / fans / subscribers):
Generated engagement (retweets, likes, reactions ...):
Number of published posts on the subject on the analysed period:
By combining these different ranking options with the Filters you can identify and focus on specific communities, or type of accounts you want to follow. These communities can be defined by data listed in the bios (verified accounts, jobs, interests, companies, localisation, number of followers ...):
You can choose to create a new monitoring Topic to detect influencers: - Sectorial monitoring, if you want to detect influencers on any given sectorial analysis, for example: Detect influencer in the housing sector - Event monitoring if you want to identify influent accounts on an event, example: Detect top influencers on an event to re-invite them to another
You can also choose to identify a specific community, list of accounts (only on X (formerly Twitter) for now). By using specific Topic Operators, you can create complex queries to identify precise communities or type of influencers. The "bio:" operator will enable you to research influencers by tapping into their X (formerly Twitter) bios as a base of your query.
For example: Identify top journalists
You will even be able to combine multiple research queries:
All of these different influencer detection methods will enable to you to analyse different subjects / type of influencers / content creation and so on. You can also choose to go further and analyse interactions between influencers by creating a infuencer mapping. Get in touch with you account manager or go check out our guide on influencer mapping.
You can set up different types of alerts :
🔔 A real time alert as soon as a competitor speaks up
🔔 A real time alert as soon as a competitor makes the buzz on social media
📰 A regular report of your competitors' speeches
Smartboards enable you to easily build and share top analysis on your list of influencers.

To create a new Topic, click on the button "+ New topic" at the top right when you are on the TOPICS page :
You need to give a name to your Topic in the Topic Name section.
This name has no impact on the data that will be retrieved: it is just the name displayed in the platform for you and your colleagues.
Then, you have to define the rules of your Topic, which will condition the data that will be retrieved. You will find the steps to create a Topic on each network on the tabs below.
To create a Topic on X (formerly Twitter), you can access the X (formerly Twitter) operators list.
When you are satisfied of your rules, you can click on the "Preview last 30 days of data" button. Then, you will be able to preview the tweets volume related to the rules of the previous step, over the last 30 days.
At this step, any data will be recovered and your Topic hasn't been created yet.
This preview allows you to check that the volume is consistent with the subject to be monitored.
If it's not consistent, you still can adjust your rules, to restrict the monitoring (for example by adding a language filter), or conversely increase the monitoring perimeter (by removing some operators, adding other keywords, spelling variants, etc).
The preview also allows you to decide if you want to retrieve past data, and if so, over what time period (from the last 24 hours to the last 30 days). Just check the corresponding box.
By default, the platform won't retrieve past data, and will start the collect in real time from the moment you validate the Topic.
Do not forget to select a past data recovery period.
Indeed, once the topic has been created, you won't be able to collect past data on your own.
If you forget, you can still contact your account manager who will be able to retrieve past data, even if the Topic has been created.
Operators that are not available for past data
The platform will show you a message specifying the problem (see below).
You can either directly validate your Topic without previewing or retrieving the past data. Or you can remove the operators that cause problems (and add them by editing the Topic afterwards).
In every cases, do not hesitate to contact your account manager who will be able to help you.
Despite the lack of preview, the Topic will work once it is created, and it will be able to retrieve data in real time.
Check one last time all the elements of your X (formerly Twitter) Topic:
Topic name: don't forget to fill in this field!
Associated rules: Have you thought about all the keywords, accounts, hashtags, etc. you want to monitor?
Past data: is the volume of tweets consistent with what you are looking for? Did you check the box for the time period you want to retrieve back data?
Once the last checks are done, you can validate the creation of the Topic by clicking on the "Create topic" button. The Visibrain platform will then start retrieving the data in real time.
If you didn't choose to retrieve past data, you will have to wait for the first tweets to be caught in real-time to see the results.
If you chose to retrieve past data, you will see a counter display while Visibrain retrieves all the past data. Depending on the size of your topic, this can take from a few seconds to ten minutes.
If you need, you can edit your Topic any time by clicking on the button "Edit" :
To create a Facebook Topic, you can define all the key-words and/ir the public pages that you want to monitor :
